Beware they are doing sales!
Precisely a week ago,my little one displayed classical symptoms of a cold. The Kenyan in me thought,''no need of medication ...now that colds have no cure''.So i decided just to get her something OTC(over the counter) to help relieve the symptoms.
Wrong i was ,but still went ahead and did it anyway.Went to a pharmacy,re-described her symptoms and just like that a prescription.I asked for the well known and trusted brand ,PARACETAMOL syrup and the pharmacist quickly interjected;''no,no need of that, doesn't work on two year old and above.''Then i thought, really? Why do they indicate the ages and the dosages in the brochure?Even a 12 year old still can use the now in contest syrup for fever.
Fever was still persistent so was forced to visit a doctor who rubbished what the Pharmacist had given me...thing is,both are meant to act on fever,my squabble though, why did the pharmacist lie to me that the good old paracetamol syrup is not effective on two years and above of age?
In my venture of shortcut,i spent more time-wise,money-wise and i elongated my little ones discomfort time! The pharmacist was clearly clearing her stock now that she didn't have the paracetamol!

It is definitely incompetence and negligence combined. An unfortunate incident...
ReplyDeleteThis is incompetence in the highest form..very sad
ReplyDeleteEverything in Kenya is just pathetic.
ReplyDeleteIncompetence, corruption, fake doctors n so on, it's by God's grace that we are still alive
This negligence will end when Public Health Act Cap 242 will be amended to prohibit medical practitioners from practicing in their private clinics . These incompetence are mostly done by inexperienced individuals such a intern or trainees as the rightful doctor are making money in these clinics
ReplyDeleteIs it that our medical personnel are inadequately trained or is it the paucity of equipment i. e. the necessary facilities required for more accurate diagnosis? I suspect that we can however also blame it on the mediocre nature of service provision evident especially in the public sector. One thing for sure is that we have a shortage in both medical personnel and facilities to adequately provide adequate service to Kenyans especially in remote areas.
ReplyDeleteIt's both incompetence and pure negligence....its painful
ReplyDeleteIT all goes back to the greater cancer that is eating us up.... Corruption... it is a sort of vicious cycle... Consider this: At KCPE, someone leaks or steals exams for kids, the same happens at high school during KCSE exams... Then at university we have Sexually Transmitted Degrees or Corruptly Acquired Degrees... Even at PhD level we are steal stealing from other Africans... Then one corruptly acquires a job through bribery or nepotism...then when the person lands on the "ground" he or she finds "vitu ni" different....That's when disaster hits...Errors and errors...Then cartels in the professional regulatory framework collude to protect their own...and so on and so forth... SAAAAAAAAD!
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteTo say it is sickening and unfortunate is an understatement.
ReplyDeleteHapa "UHC" is a tall order...
ReplyDeleteSo unfortunate!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sad Kenyans on many instances have had to suffer misdiagnosis, negligence and many more vices. This comes with costs which often become expensive
ReplyDeleteIt's at such moments that my heart cry over Kenya it's people...
ReplyDeleteIts advisable to go for a second opinion example Jimmy Gaites case
ReplyDeleteIncompetence ;fake doctors
ReplyDeleteThis total negligence and it's common in our country..so sad
ReplyDeleteIncompetence and just pure negligence. That's a really sad situation to say the least
ReplyDeleteIt's very sad thelengths people are willing to go just for money
